'Jurassic World 2' to film key scenes in Windward Oahu

"Jurassic World 2," one of the most prominent movie franchises to shoot scenes in Hawaii, is scheduled to film key scenes next month in the Heeia Pier area in Windward Oahu, according to public documents.
At last month's Kahaluu and Kaneohe Neighborhood Board meetings, officials with the Hawaii Film Office and the Honolulu Film Office gave an update about how they plan to deal with possible traffic issues that the film may cause.
Film Office officials did not specify the "Jurassic World 2" film name but only referred it as "Ancient Futures." Laura Sode-Metteson, who worked on "Jurassic World" that was shown in theaters in 2015, who was at the Kaneohe board meeting, said the filming is for a major Universal Studios production. "Jurassic World," which reported opening weekend box office figures of $204.6 million in the United States alone, is a Universal production, and also shot scenes in Hawaii. Published reports show that "Ancient Futures" is the title being used for "Jurassic World 2."
The fifth installment of the "Jurassic Park" film series is scheduled to shoot for six days in June that's being described as a big scene that will require smoke and pyrotechnics, according to minutes from one of the board meetings.
The production is asking the city to help it with traffic control on Kamehameha Highway. Film officials say the production should not largely impact people traveling to their communities in the area. The production will not be shooting on any weekends or holidays, as well as not during peak travel times.
"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to be shown in theaters in June 2018.

  1. I am one of the residents in the area that will be affected by this production. Universal Pictures stuck a note in every home's mailbox, saying we will "always be allowed access to our homes via Kahekili Highway". Unfortunately, that part of Kahekili is always a very slow crawl due to the construction on the highway and the huge amount of traffic in both directions...all day, all night. But, I appreciate the consideration of Universal allowing us access to our own beds, and so forth.

Nothing against Hollywood coming here to shoot movies, if they were paying our state what they should be paying and not getting these perks that inconvenience the residents of the area. I am not indignant about this, just annoyed. I left Hollywood to move here 20 years ago, and to get away from Hollywood
film productions. I don't even care how much money the film will earn. Just try not to bother me!
