Tin Hut BBQ secures office space in Honolulu as it prepares for major expansion
Tin Hut BBQ, a mainland-style barbecue food truck that’s one
of the most popular food trucks in Hawaii, has recently struck a deal to lease office
space in Honolulu with its eyes squarely on attaining its first
brick-and-mortar space, the owner tells Shimogawa Scoops.
Founded by military veteran Frank Diaz, Tin Hut BBQ was
voted as the top food truck in Hawaii in 2017 by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
The food truck, which serves Carolina-style pulled pork,
Texas brisket, KC Ribs and southern-style chicken, is leasing an office space
at 900 Nimitz Highway that’s also home to La Tour Café, Party City, 7-Eleven,
Manaola, Primerica, Elite Discount Furniture, 900 LLC, 5.11 Tactical and Bangkok
Chef. The highly-visible building was once the home to Weyerhaeuser’s packaging
plant.
The new office serves as the headquarters of Tin Hut BBQ’s
operations. Up next for the popular eatery is securing spaces for its ono (tasty)
meats.
Duane Shimogawa of Avalon Commercial, who is the exclusive real estate agent for Tin Hut BBQ, represented the popular eatery in its office lease deal, while Paul Yee of Cushman Wakefield - ChaneyBrooks, which represents the landlord, 900 LLC, handled the lease negotiation for the landlord.

"Rather than cook our meat on high heat quickly, we opt
for low heat and slow cooking times, averaging between 12 to 14 hours to get
the texture and flavor just right," Diaz says. "We also make our own
dry rub and barbecue sauce using a combination of spices such as cayenne
pepper, paprika and raw brown sugar."
Growing up on the mainland and throughout his extensive military career, Diaz
dreamed of starting his own barbeque business. That dream became reality
when, after relocating to Hawaii, he launched his first food truck and catering
business. Diaz also launched Aloha Gourmet Food Trucks Hawaii, partnering with
fellow mobile cuisine entrepreneurs from the best food trucks on Oahu.
