Home Depot may be eyeing Honolulu property for new store

Home Depot, the largest home improvement retailer in the nation, may be eyeing property in the Mapunapuna area near the Daniel K. Inouye Honolulu International Airport for another store.

The Atlanta-based retailer, which has seven stores in Hawaii, including three on Oahu, has filed permits this week to explore the possibility of a new store at the 132,250-square-foot Moanalua 99 Ranch Market property at 1151 Mapunapuna St.

The 6.85-acre leasehold property is currently on the market with an asking price of $3 million, according to a listing with Honolulu-based Marcus & Associates Inc.

Also known as the Moanalua Ethnic Village, the Moanalua 99 Ranch Market was created to provide nearby local and military communities with a variety of restaurants and professional services including Bee’s Dessert House, Mary’s Mediterranean Kitchen, Scoop & Fruit, Flamingo Express, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers and Diem 99 CafĂ©.

Home Depot currently has a store in Honolulu in the neighborhood of Iwilei near a Lowe’s store and City Mill, which is about a 15-minute drive to the Moanalua 99 Ranch Market.
