Another hotel may be coming to West Oahu

Another hotel may be coming to Kapolei in West Oahu, according to public records.

The new 240-room hotel project, which would include 140 rooms with kitchens and 100 rooms without kitchens, is being looked at by Alakai Development.

The Honolulu-based firm filed an infrastructure application with the city on Wednesday for the hotel, which would be located in Ewa Beach as part of the Hoopili master-planned community by D.R. Horton – Schuler Homes.

The new hotel would be built near Alakai’s newly-built The Element Apartments rental complex and the University of Hawaii West Oahu campus on a three-acre site.

The new hotel would join other existing hotels in the area such as Embassy Suites by Hilton, Residence Inn by Marriott and Hampton Inn & Suites.

Kapolei, known by some as Oahu’s “Second City,” has gained more new hotels in the last several years than in Waikiki, which is the top tourist destination market in Hawaii.

The growth of such hotel properties has been driven by strong demand from those wanting to stay away from bustling and expensive Waikiki, and near their loved ones who attend UH West Oahu, as well as near sporting or other events happening outside of Honolulu.

There also were no hotels in the area only up until just a few years ago. Hotel rates in Kapolei are in the range of about $250 per night.
